about
Iron Gate East is many things: A film production company. An exhibition series. A publishing house. A think tank. At times working alone, at times partnering with local organizations, Iron Gate East makes films, curates exhibitions, publishes fiction and nonfiction, and facilitates forums in unique locations that are engaging and innovative, connecting artists with new audiences.
Iron Gate East is the fever dream of award-winning filmmaker, curator, and published author Kelcey Edwards. Edwards began her career as co-founder of Iron Gate Studios, a nonprofit contemporary art space and pioneer in the thriving East Austin, Texas Arts District. The daughter of a museum curator, Edwards has built a career sharing artists' work and stories through filmmaking, writing, curating, and other platforms. Her films have received support from Sundance Film Institute and Tribeca Film Institue and have screened at top festivals such as SXSW Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, and DOC NYC. Her films have been broadcast on PBS and streamed internationally.
Edwards, a Masters of Fine Arts graduate of Stanford University, is an Associate Professor of Film & Television at Hofstra University and a seasoned curator of more than 50 exhibitions including video art, performance art, fashion art and installation. She lives in NYC and the Hamptons and travels frequently to Austin, San Francisco, LA and abroad.
"We need to rethink how we deal with a discipline whose main purpose is to produce ideas, not consumer objects."
